Size & Weight Enforcement |
MTD is responsible for implementing an "effective" size
and weight program statewide. This is a federal requirement contained in 23
CFR, Section 657.17. States that fail to certify and maintain an effective
plan are subject to a 10% annual reduction in federal highway funds. In federal fiscal years 2005 and 2006 the state received approximately $300 million in federal highway assistance. Since 1994, MTD has made a commitment to perform 25,000 mobile weighings each
year and this has resulted in enhanced size and weight compliance by the commercial
motor vehicle industry. |

Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) |
MTD began implementation of its Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) in October 1988. The program has received both regional and national recognition for its high quality and its leadership within the motor carrier safety community. The MTD MCSAP program is an essential part of pilot programs for the development of ASPEN (inspection software), CVSA Motorcoach Inspection Process, National Fleet Survey (random inspections), and Performance-Based Safety Plans. New Mexico is 1 of only 6 states to participate in such advanced work. |
